Original Apple Watch Is Only $2499 On eBay
The ’90s Apple watch won’t interface with your iPhone, monitor your fitness level or show text messages. It will just sit there on your wrist and tell time like any old watch. It also won’t cost you $350, the entry-level price for a new Apple Watch. If you buy it from eBay seller theappleipodbay, it will set your wallet back $2,499.99 (about £1,690, AU$3,285). [Mirror]
At $2499, Apple Watch Retro represents the second most expensive Apple Watch tier. Whether or not it’s remotely worth it comes down to availability. Surely, there are several of these out there, but they don’t often come up for sale, and if you want a distinctly styled piece of Apple history, now’s as good a time as any to add the original Apple Watch to your collection. In that context, then, its price tag is not really surprising.
What is really surprising, however, is that with all its emphasis on Faces, Apple didn’t throw its own past pedigree a bone and offer a digital version of this kooky, squiggly thing built into its brand new wearable. I fully expect custom third-party Faces to be a big deal with Apple Watch going forward, but Cook and company would do well to push this first-party homage out in a week one update.
Apple can’t afford to miss any opportunity to promote its most forward-thinking, controversial product to date.
