Rumor: Samsung Gear S3 Will Have Variety of New Sensors, Including GPS

August 2, 2016

According to a new rumor, the upcoming Gear S3 smartwatch will include a variety of new sensors in hopes of appealing to those who are more active.

SamMobile reports that the next-generation S3 smartwatch will include a speedometer, an altimeter, a barometer, as well as GPS.

If the S3 does come in with built-in GPS, it will allow wearers to keep track of their location without the need for a smartphone, something many active Apple Watch wearers have complained about.

What’s also cool is that if GPS is included, the S3 will also likely be able to keep track of your speed with the use of the rumored built-in speedometer.

Of course, the second-generation Apple Watch is also heavily rumored to include a GPS sensor and we should see that as early as next month.

Apple continues to dominate the smartwatch market selling nearly three times as many smartwatches as Samsung. Our bet is that if Apple does put out a second-generation Apple Watch this fall, they’ll be able to maintain their lead. For now, though, it looks like Samsung has some great upgrades in the pipeline.
