Rumor: Apple Watch 2 to Feature Built-In GPS, Track Swimming
Our friends over and 9to5Mac have published a few rumors from a source regarding the upcoming iPhone 7 and the next generation Apple Watch. While these rumors should be taken with a grain of salt, we still think they’re interesting because truthfully, we’d love to see these features.
According to 9to5Mac’s sources, the upcoming Apple Watch 2 will feature built-in GPS as well as the ability to track swimming.
Far more sketchy: The Apple Watch 2 is said to include GPS for accurate workout logging without the need to carry an iPhone, and the Workout app reportedly will gain the ability to track swimming – suggesting a higher level of waterproofing in the next Apple Watch.
As 9to5Mac states, the advantages are obvious. If the next-generation Apple Watch has built-in GPS, then there is no need to carry your phone with you when you go out on a run for example.
We think this is a very plausible rumor simply because health tracking is one of the main reasons people buy the Apple Watch. Having to take your phone with you is truly a pain and by putting in GPS into the Watch, you could eliminate the need for your phone completely while out on runs. Of course, that doesn’t solve the fact that you can’t receive a phone call, but perhaps Apple will manage to shove in a cellular chip in there as well.
Again, these are all rumors, but we’re probably only a few months away from finding out of they’re true. I, for one, would love GPS in the next Apple Watch and I’m sure many others would too.
