The Diskus is an Apple Watch Charger that's Actually Approved by Apple

July 26, 2016

Roughly a year ago, Apple unveiled their MFI program for the Apple Watch, allowing third-party’s to create straps and charging accessories for the newly released Apple Watch. Other than a few made by big names such as Belkin, we really haven’t seen much in the way of chargers, until today.

The Diskus is a Kickstarter project that hopes to bring its Apple Watch charger to market, with the approval of Apple.

The biggest difference between the Diskus and the charger included when you buy your Apple Watch is the cable. Instead of a puck that’s connected to a wire, the Diskus offers a Micro-USB port, allowing you to plug in any Micro-USB wire no matter what the length. Personally, I do find the length of the Apple Watch charging wire to be annoying.

The Diskus Kickstarter campaign launches today and hopes to raise at least $55,000 in funding. If you’re worried about the quality and ship date for this product, perhaps it will comfort you to know that ThanoTech, the company behind Diskus, has successful sold great charging cables. Some websites, such as The Verge, have had a chance to play with a prototype and from what they say it sounds like a home run.

If you’re interested in grabbing one, you can back the campaign here.
