Apple Starts Selling Official Made For Apple Watch Lugs
After announcing an official Made for Apple Watch program back in May, Apple has starting delivering on its promise of providing Apple-made watch lugs that third-party manufacturers can use to make their own custom straps. Company’s enrolled in the MFi program, can now order the lugs used on the Classic Buckle for $10 dollars a set.
While there have been plenty of third-party replica connectors as seen in the picture below, none of these meet Apple’s strict guidelines and will likely not be stamped with Apple’s approval. For hat reason, you probably won’t see these sold anywhere but online through place like AliBaba or Amazon.
Apple’s lugs however, are created with the goal of helping watch band makers get their stuff in front of more people. The lugs are stainless steel and are actually stamped “Made for Apple Watch.” Interestingly, the only color Apple is making available at the moment seems to be the stainless steel. No word yet on other colors such as gold for the Edition.
We’re betting that this signifies the start of third-party bands being sold at Apple’s retail stores along with many other retail outlets such as Target and Best Buy. We’ll keep you updated as things move forward.
