Apple Seems To Be Downplaying The Apple Watch Edition

March 24, 2016

As noted by 9to5Mac, Apple has redone its Apple Watch page and seems to be downplaying the 18K Gold Apple Watch Edition. When you visit the new Watch page, not a single Edition is being showcased. All the other models including the Sport, Steel, and even Space Black Steel are pictured, but the Edition is nowhere to be seen.

9to5Mac is also reporting that they’ve heard that the Apple Watch Edition is being removed from Apple’s retail displays too. Our own sources have told us the same, with Apple replacing editions with some of the new Apple Watch Sport models.

Even when you go to Apple’s cool new interactive gallery, the Apple Watch Edition is not a Watch you can pick from the lineup. Now you could argue that Edition buyers would rather see the Watch in person, but our hunch is that the 18K Gold Apple Watch Edition simply isn’t a hit, even for those with a lot of money to spend.

Truth be told, I think the Apple Watch will always have a hard time selling for the $10,000 price tag Apple put on it. Sure it’s beautiful and sure it’s uber-luxurious, but my bet would be that Apple might have better luck pushing an 18K gold plated Apple Watch for say $2500. Even people with insane amounts of money want to buy Watches they can wear for a long periods of time. And the Apple Watch is just not that.
