Rumor: Apple Watch ’S’ Coming in March

February 2, 2016

Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Muster (you know, the TV guy) believes that the Apple Watch will get an S-like upgrade during the all but confirmed Apple event set to take place on March 15, 2016.

According to a note to investors, he expects this “S” version to get a better processor as well as better battery life:

In a note sent to clients on Tuesday, he explained: Apple Watch: expect more of an “S” version with similar design, upgraded components including processor[,] battery, new band styles. Unlikely to have a wireless radio, which would allow standalone (i.e. decoupled from iPhone).

To be honest, it wouldn’t shock me if Apple did put a better chip inside the Watch simply because the current S1 chip is pretty slow. What I don’t understand though is why would they do that if they’re going to be 6 months away from releasing a fully redesigned Apple Watch in the Fall as reported by Mark Gurman from 9to5Mac.

Perhaps they feel that by doing this they can lower the entry price of the “S” Watch in the fall to something like $249 and still push out a new version that would start at $349.

I guess we’ll know in about a month.
