BLOCKS Modular Smartwatch Hits Kickstarter Goal
The BLOCKS modular smartwatch hit Kickstarter today and in just a few hours it has pushed past its $250,000 finance goal. With all the hype surrounding this product, it’s not all that surprising given the company’s ambitions.
The BLOCKS smartwatch was first teased during this years Consumer Electronics Show (CES) this past summer. The entire premise of the watch is to provide various modular components and sensors so that you can build your own watch that suits you, rather to purchase something designed and created by a company like Apple or Samsung, which offers less modularity.
The watch core itself includes a color touchscreen display that has haptic feedback and 36 hours of battery life according to the specs. It’s powered by a Snapdragon 400 and is claimed to be compatible with both Android and iOS. Bundled software includes activity monitoring, sleep tracking, phone calling and more. It’s also IP67 certified which means it has some project from water, but is not as well project as say, the Apple Watch, which is IPX7 certified.
BLOCKS says that you’ll be able to fit roughly four modules on large wrists and about three modules on those of us with smaller wrists. Colors include black, red, and white.
In order to get in on one of these, you’ll have a pledge a minimum of $195 for just the core. If you’re looking to add modules, you’ll have to pledge $285, which includes four of your choice.
When can you expect this to land? May 2016 according to the Kickstarter page.
