Hands-On with the Twelve South HiRise Apple Watch Stand

Hands-On with the Twelve South HiRise Apple Watch Stand

June 15, 2015

Apple Watch stands are starting to become more popular as the the Apple Watch starts to reach more and more people’s wrists. I’ve been looking at a few for quite some time and today I’m here to tell you about one of my favorites: the HiRise Apple Watch Stand from Twelve South. I’ve been using this for about a week now and I have to say… it’s really nice.

For the record, the stand comes in two colors: A black and a silver, both crafted from mostly aluminum and some plastic and silicon to prevent the Watch from scratching. You can grab it on Amazon for $50. It’s not cheap, but I think it’s worth it. I got the silver because, well, I like silver.

As you can see, Twelve South wraps the areas where you’re Watch will be touching with a very soft silicon. This, of course, is to prevent any scratching or damage to your Apple Watch. If this silicon was not there, you can bet that anyone with with a metal band would be flipping out once the noticed the outside of their band was scratched. Good move by Twelve South.

I really love how simple this stand is. It holds my Watch up perfectly and just looks good doing it. The stand is sturdy and doesn’t slide around on the table at all. It’s got a nice heft to it without being too heavy. Sorta like all Apple products honestly.

Here’s another angle. Again, you can see how the silicon protects to top portion of the band. Also, notice how they designed the stand to conceal the wire leading put to the inductive magnet. Basically, you pop off the bottom part (in dark grey) and feed the wire through there. Takes 2 minutes and gives it a very clean look.

Here’s a closer look at how the magnet fits into the stand. It’s snug, but not too tight. And again, they put plastic around that area so that it doesn’t scratch up your charger. Well done.

Side profile. Yep, this stand is thinner than the Apple Watch itself.

I even flipped the Watch on its side to simulate the “Night Stand” mode Apple has in watchOS 2. It holds the Watch, but it doesn’t provide any significant support under the Watch itself. Too much movement and the Watch could slide down.

Overall, I’m very happy with the HiRise Apple Watch Stand. I just love its simple Apple-like design and I love how my Watch looks charging on it. I know there are a ton of other Apple Watch stands out there, but right now this is probably my favorite.

You can grab this on Amazon for $50 if your’e interested.
