8 iPhone Apps That Are Available On Android Wear But Not Apple Watch

May 14, 2015

Since the Watch’s debut, Apple has been praised for the sheer variety and number of Watch apps available to the platform, which has already eclipsed 4,000 at the time of this writing. There have been many predictions floating around the web saying that the number of Apple Watch apps will eventually surpass that of its polar opposite, Android Wear.

But this doesn’t mean that Apple Watch has everything right. After some research, we’ve noticed that there are many Android Wear apps with big names and brands behind them that are nowhere to be found on Cupertino’s new wearable.

It’s probably only a matter of time before we’ll see them turn up on Apple’s side of the fence, but here are eight Android Wear apps you won’t find on Apple Watch at the moment:

1. WhatsApp Messenger: Facebook’s mobile messaging app with over 800 million active users as of April 2015 would be appreciated on the Apple Watch.

2. Facebook Messenger: Yet another Facebook messaging app that would, again, be quite useful on the Apple Watch.

3. Pinterest: The Web’s most popular visual bookmarking tool was shown off on the Apple Watch by none other than Apple itself, which could be a likely indication that it’s coming.

4. Telegram Messenger: It seems that those who aren’t using WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger are using Telegram for its end-to-end encryption and beautiful apps. Unfortunately, this does not include Apple Watch right now.

5. GroupMe: Although this one might be less known than the other messaging apps we’ve mentioned, GroupMe is an excellent group messaging client that’s also missing from the Apple Watch.

6. Google Maps: Remember when iPhone users were praying for a native Google Maps experience after Scott Forstall unleashed Apple Maps with iOS 6? Sure, the current limitations of WatchKit don’t allow for haptic turn-by-turn navigation like Apple Maps does. But once the full power of the Apple Watch SDK is unleashed, we all know that Google Maps would be better than the stock app in almost every way.

7. Google Hangouts: It’s absence isn’t the end of the world since Apple Watch already supports phone calls, texts, and Skype, but Google Hangouts – which is probably the best and most useful part of the Google+ experience – is annoyingly absent from Apple’s wearable.

8. Glympse: Since Apple has yet to make a Find My Friends app for Apple Watch, Glympse’s location sharing features would be killer on the wrist.

9: Lyft: I know we said this list was only eight deep, but maybe I don’t want to use Uber, you know?

Here’s the full list of Android Wear apps we consulted for this list. But Android Wear had a big (if totally haphazard) head start on Apple Watch, so there are bound to be some more diamonds in the rough. If we missed any of them, let us know in the comments.
