Monowear Nylon Bands for Apple Watch Offer Flexibility

June 10, 2016

Monowear was one of the first third-party companies to offer high quality bands for the Apple Watch. Instead of trying to copy Apple’s band offerings, Monowear has its own look and style.

Monowear sent me their Purple Nylon band to review. It’s really more of a lavender or lilac, but it’s a gorgeous color. It also comes in Olive, Gray, Black, Red (more of a maroon shade), and Turquoise. Many of you will be happy to know that you can choose the adapters and buckle to match your Apple Watch: Stainless Steel, Space Gray, Silver Sport, Gold, and Rose Gold. Each one is available in the 38mm or 42mm size.

The band slides onto the Apple Watch with ease and locks securely into place. The band fits beautifully and looks sharp. The nylon is thick and feels like good quality. There is, however, a tiny edge on the inside of the band that pokes me in the wrist sometimes when I move a certain way. I can’t see what’s causing the issue, and frankly, most people probably wouldn’t even notice. I am a bit of a “princess and the pea” type. Other than that tiny occasional poke, the band wears comfortably all day, even at the gym.

My wrists are 145mm and I wear it on the tightest or second tightest hole; there are seven holes total. There is very little slack at the end of the strap, so if you’re using one of the looser holes, the strap doesn’t go through both holders after the buckle. Of course, if your wrists are much smaller than mine, this band won’t work for you. According to Monowear’s size chart, the 38mm band will fit wrists from 122mm to 162mm; the 42mm band will fit 140mm to 180mm. I’m not sure if the extremes are accurate; it’s hard to imagine someone with wrists 20mm smaller than mine fitting this band.

Frankly, I’d be hard-pressed to recommend this band over Clockwork Synergy‘s nylon band, which has more color options and is less than half the price. But this is certainly a nice, solid band I like a lot, and the charming color is not like anything I’ve seen elsewhere. You can purchase these nylon bands for your Apple Watch on Monowear’s site for $59.99.
