All Apple Watch Apps Must Be Native Starting on June 1
April 22, 2016
Apple today informed developers that starting June 1, 2016, all watchOS apps submitted to the App Store must now be native apps built with the watchOS 2 SDK.
If you recall, when the Apple Watch first launched, apps were completely reliant on the iPhone to run on the Apple Watch. Later, with watchOS 2, Apple introduced support for native apps, letting developers build apps that are capable of running on the Watch itself, improving speed, reliability and allowed developers to tap into the Watches sensors and Digital Crown.
Interestingly, the June 1 deadline is just two weeks before WWDC 2016, where we can expect Apple to unveil what’s behind watchOS 3.
We can’t wait!
