This Apple Watch Stand Will Work With Apple's New 'Night Mode'

June 8, 2015

During the WWDC 2015 keynote, Apple announced a new mode for Apple Watch called “Night Mode” which basically allows you to use your Watch as an alarm clock of sorts. Here’s how Apple phrased it:

Now you can use your watch even when you’re done wearing it for the day. Just place it on its side and connect the charger. Apple Watch will automatically go into Nightstand mode, a digital display that illuminates whenever you touch the screen, the Digital Crown, or the side button. Nightstand mode even changes how the watch buttons function. When an alarm sounds, you press the side button to turn it off, or the Digital Crown to snooze.

Many folks, myself included, are very happy to see this feature. Why should your Watch do nothing while it’s charging? The only problem is that almost all Watch stands are ill-equipped to to take advantage of this function since they almost all hold up the watch vertically with no option for horizontal charging.

Except for one: The ElevationLab Nightstand.

This Nightstand was perfectly designed for this exact function. It actually charges the watch horizontally so that you can take advantage of all the “Night Mode” features Apple touted in its keynote. What’s even better is that you don’t have to have the Watch flat on your nightstand where it’s more susceptible to being scuffed or scratched.

The Nightstand isn’t available yet, but it looks like you’ll be able to get your hands on one starting June 15th. If you’re interested, go to ElevationLab and pre-order one today.

Update: One of our fellow readers let us know that the Dock by Native Union also has the ability to dock the Apple Watch on its side. You can check it out here.
