Inconvenient Truths About The Apple Watch

April 14, 2015

Mike Rundle, Medium:

This past Friday, the first day that the public was allowed to handle and play with the Apple Watch, everyone who had been obsessing over videos and photographs finally got the chance to use one firsthand. I made it to the Apple Store on Friday and was one of those people.

I came away underwhelmed and a little disheartened.

These are my thoughts on the Apple Watch after actually using one.

I’ve gone to the Apple Store twice to do a fitting and check these watches out in person. My first impression was  absolutely blow away. However, during my second visit, I spent more time examining the Watches and bands and I agree with many of Mike’s points. When you compare this watch to, say, a Rolex or a Panerai, there’s no question those manufacturers have a leg up on Apple. And that’s to be expected, honestly. Apple is just starting and these other watch companies have been around for many, many decades.

Is this a good first step? Absolutely. These watches are still incredible and beautiful in person. Apple has dome a remarkable job combing technology and fashion in a way we’ve never seen before. I expect them to continue pushing the limits until this watch really does feel like it came from a century-old watch company.
