Does Cupertino Need Apple Watch To Reduce Reliance On iPhone?
“Apple needs a new product to reduce its reliance on one core product, the iPhone,” David Goldman, CNN’s technology editor, said in February. “It won’t find that with the Apple Watch.”
It isn’t looking for that with Apple Watch. In fact, the opposite is true: Apple built Apple Watch specifically to increase its reliance on their core product. The thing won’t work without iPhone!
Apple makes its money on the back of iPhone, and business is booming. With a reliable biennial upgrade cycle built into the platform, along with a brand new China presence that just yielded the largest financial quarter in the history of global public enterprise, the iPhone is an Apple exclusive showing no signs of slowing down. It is the most pervasive consumer device ever, and it still demonstrates more potential for growth than anything else out there. While Tim Cook claims that Apple Watch will slowly replace every other gadget in your life, that bluster isn’t meant to include iPhone any time soon. Apple Watch is to iPhone what iPhone is to Mac. It is the tether that untethers.
Just remember, Mac sales are up, too.
