Apple Watch Devs Asked To Keep Quiet Before Keynote Event

March 6, 2015

Mark Gurman, 9to5Mac:

Apple has asked developers who attended secretive Apple Watch app development workshops in Cupertino across January and February to hold off on announcing their applications, according to multiple high-profile developers. These people say that Apple has asked developers to not provide in-depth details, revealing screenshots, or launch information about their applications until after the event at the very least. In some cases, Apple has even asked developers to wait until late March or early April to announce their applications.

We suspected this was these case, as many large developers we were talking with about showcasing in our Apps section suddenly went quiet. Now we have confirmation. Of course, we think this is due more to Apple’s desire for a completely controlled roll-out than it is a result of these (and similar) app previews across the Internet. That’s why Apple asked the big boys like Facebook and BMW to work in secret.

On the plus side, this is great news — for us and you — because it means the flood gates will be thrown open after Monday’s keynote.
