Monochrome for Reddit Functions on the Apple Watch

Monochrome for Reddit has limited functionality on the Apple Watch. Essentially, you just get the front page of Reddit on the watch. It’s not much, but if that’s all you want to see of Reddit on your wrist, this is the app you want. The official Reddit app has no Apple Watch app at all, so Monochrome is an option if you want to access the social media giant on your wrist.

Monochrome does not give a personalized front page on the Apple Watch with the top posts of the subreddits you’re subscribed to. You just get a general front page. This is fine if you just want to do a quick check of the headlines from your wrist. The headlines are all you get. If you want to read the whole story, see the photo/GIF/video, check out the comments section, or upvote/downvote a post, you’ll have to go to your phone. I did find that the app updates quickly on the Apple Watch.

On your phone, Monochrome is a fully functional Reddit app. It’s clean, simple, and has a pleasing user interface. I found it easy to use and a perfectly fine way to use Reddit on my phone. The app is free, but a one-time in-app purchase of $1.99 gets you Monochrome Pro. The upgrade brings you more features, such as a dark theme, 3D Touch quick actions, multiple accounts, the ability to submit posts, and more. The IAP does not add any more features to the Apple Watch.

I appreciate that Monochrome for Reddit did provide an Apple Watch app, despite its limited functionality. I hope that future updates will at least let us personalize the front page and see more than headlines. Still, if you don’t need more than a quick look at the latest headlines on your wrist and you plan to use the app more fully on your iPhone, then Monchrome for Reddit will be worth the download.
