Shmuzer Lets You Schmooze Like a Pro

schmooze

[shmooz] Slang.
verb (used without object)schmoozed, schmoozing.

1.

to chat idly; gossip.
noun

2.

idle conversation; chatter.
The app Shmuzer caught my eye, because I knew it was a variation on the Yiddish word, “schmooze.” If you’re familiar with the term (see above, though I would add that word is more commonly used to indicate smooth small talk or networking than idle chatter or gossip) you can take a guess about what the app is.
Shmuzer is a social utility app, a simple app to help you make conversation. It works great on the Apple Watch; in fact it’s pretty much the same on the iPhone and the watch. Shmuzer is simple, it gives you questions that prod interesting discussions. I can envision using this on car trips with the family, or at parties when conversation lulls.
Open the app and choose your default category, Assorted or This Or That.  The category called This Or That give you questions that remind me of the book series Would You Rather… and you pick from two or more possible responses. The Assorted category questions are more open ended. Either way, of course, by adding, “and why?” you can induce more detailed discussion. Force press at any time within the app to bring up the menu that lets you reset the app, choose a category, and choose one of nine button colors.

You can see some of Shmuzer’s questions in the pictures above. Here are some more questions from the Assorted category:
“What is one old movie/book/TV series that you wish would be brought back?”
“If you had one million dollars, what would you do with it?”
Here are some questions from the This Or That category:
“Would you rather vacation to familiar places or travel to a new place each time?”
“Big dogs or little dogs?”
“Would you rather have a fancy house or a fancy car?”
“Would you rather have guaranteed health or guaranteed happiness?”
The app works so well on the Apple Watch that I don’t see any reason to pull out your iPhone, though of course you could. There is not a complication but there is a glance, and with watchOS 3 you’ll be able to put it in your dock. You never know when you might need a conversation booster; this is a great app to keep on your Apple Watch just in case. It’s a fun little app. Shmuzer is free on the App Store.
