Rumor: Faster, Cheaper First-Gen Apple Watch to Launch Alongside Apple Watch 2 Later This Year
The often reliable KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo today claimed that the first-generation Apple Watch will receive a faster TMSC-processor, superior waterproofing, and a price cut later this year.
Kuo says the upgraded first-generation Apple Watch will not receive GPS, a barometer, and other additions reserved for the second-generation Apple Watch.
Kuo does not predict what the new price cut will be, but it wouldn’t be shocking to see another $50 or even $100 price cut in order to entice first-time buyers. Earlier this year, Apple reduced the Apple Watch starting price from $349 to $299, helping increase sales.
Rumors of when the second-generation Apple Watch will launch have been floating for some time and many believe that it will make its debut in September alongside the iPhone 7. I tend to believe that the upgrade will be significant and will include things like an always-on display as well as new health-related sensors, but of course, I’m just speculating.
Still, I’m excited to see what Apple has planned for the second-gen Watch. My guess is it’s going to be great.
