Breaking News + Brings the Right Amount of News Notifications

I looked around for an app that would send me just the right kind and frequency of news notifications on my Apple Watch. I didn’t want constant alerts nor too few. I like being the first to know when important news breaks. I find Breaking News +, developed by NBC News Digital, to strike the right balance.

The app is perfectly functional and informative on the iPhone, though I find the interface to be a little bit cluttered and there are other news apps I like better for long form reading. But for the quick news bite, Breaking News + hits the spot. There is a lot contained within this app; it’s a nice blend of world news and local news. It’s curated by real people, not algorithms.

When a major story breaks, you get the headline on your watch. You can dismiss it, read more, or follow the story as it progresses. Of course you can always go to your iPhone for the whole story. Within the iPhone app, you can personalize the app to your preferences. For example, you can choose for the app to notify you of Major Stories, Big Stories Near Me, and/or Emerging Stories.
