Better Day Offers a Better Date Complication

Better Day Offers a Better Date Complication

June 5, 2016

Many of us have two complications on our Apple Watch faces that bring us to the same place. The small Date complication shows day and date. A second, larger Calendar complication in the middle of the Modular face or the bottom of Utility or Mickey, shows an upcoming event or two. Tap either one, and you’ll be taken to the same place: your calendar.

Better Day gives you some more options for that small complication, instead of using the built-in Date. You can configure it a number of ways; my favorite one gives the day, month, and date. Apple’s Date complication will not give you the month. Yes, you should know what month it is anyway, but if you’re writing a check or just need a quick reminder, it’s nice to have that right on your watch face. I appreciate any tweaks that give me a little more information on my Apple Watch.

Better Day

I’m using Apple’s native Date complication in the left photo (top left corner); Better Day in the right.

When you tap Apple’s native Date complication, you are taken to your calendar. You can see any day this week, or a month view. You cannot see any farther into the past or future. Better Day offers something different. You get only a month view, no day or week view, but you can see months in the past or future. Scroll the Digital Crown to move between months; Force Touch to move between years. That means you can check to see what date New Year’s Eve will fall on this year, or when it fell last year. Or when it will fall 10 years from now.

Better Day supports 11 different calendars, such as Gregorian, Islamic, Hebrew, and Indian National. It also supports 26 languages.

Better Day may not necessarily be the best option if it’s the only way to access your calendar from the Apple Watch face, because it doesn’t give you a detailed daily or weekly view. But if you normally keep both the Date complication and the Calendar complication, then Better Day is definitely a worthwhile replacement for the Date complication. You get more information and less overlap with this app. Better Day is $.99 on the App Store.
