HealthView Is The Best Pedometer App And So Much More

April 17, 2016

I’ve been looking for a pedometer app with a good complication, which has proven harder than you’d think. I’d been using Pedometer++, which is good, and I still think it’s the best free one you can get. But if you’re willing to shell out $.99, you can have better.

For me, a pedometer app is all about the complication. If I want to tap around to find how many steps I’ve taken that day, I don’t need an app. I can just go into the native Activity app and scroll down. So for a pedometer app to be useful, it needs to have a complication that gives clear, up-to-date information. Pedometer++ has a circle that fills up and changes color as you meet your goal. HealthView goes one better; the complication tells you the exact number of steps you’ve taken that day. I have found it to be much more accurate and up-to-date than any other app I’ve tried.

If you just want a simple pedometer, you can use HealthView for just that. But if you want more, HealthView has much more to offer. You can sync it up with all parts of Apple’s native Health app, and it shows the information you choose. The user interface on the iPhone app is both useful and visually appealing. The app is so customizable; you choose which health aspects you want to track, and you set your own goals.

Even right on the Apple Watch, you can dig down several levels to get more information if you want it. Tap the complication for a daily, weekly, and monthly summary of various health measures. There is a yearly summary as well that works on the iPhone but there is a bug preventing it from working on the watch. I expect they will fix that soon.

In addition to Steps, you get a summary of your Distance, Burned Calories, Cycling, Flights Climbed, Calories, Weight, Heart Rate, Nike Fuel, Body Fat, BMI, Lean Body Mass, Caffiene, Sleep, Hydration, Workouts, and Stand Hours. You get any or all of this information on both the iPhone and the Apple Watch.

Heathview is available on the App Store for $.99 and it’s worth every penny.
