Monogram Plus lets you truly customize your Apple Watch face

If you can spare a complication or two on your watch face, you can have a lot of fun with Monogram Plus. Of course, you can also use it place a reminder or other useful bit of text on your watch face, but I tend to use it for pure aesthetic enjoyment. This is a great way to customize your Apple Watch even more than Apple had intended.

The Monogram Plus iPhone app is nothing more than a controller for the Apple Watch app. Start on the iPhone to set up your complications. You’ll see options for every kind of complication on every Apple Watch face that has complications. Type in any message or emoji you like. A few of the complications, Modular Small, Circular, and Utilitarian Small, even allow you to upload a photo. The photo should be simple, since it’s going to be very small. And it needs to be an image that makes sense in just one color. You can pick which color you want that image to be.

Once you’ve designed your complication on the iPhone, you’ll need to update it on the Apple Watch to see your creation. Tap the Monogram Plus complication and then force touch to bring up the “Refresh Complications” message. Tap that and you’re all set. When you go back to your watch face, your new complication will be there.

Use the large Modular complication to give yourself a daily message of affirmation, a countdown to a major life event (you’d need to change this manually each day), or any kind of important reminder. It will be difficult to forget the pick up milk on your way home from work if you see it emblazoned on your watch face every time you check the time all day. The smaller complications are probably more decorative than functional, but play around with them and see what you can do.
