Keep Loyalty Cards And More Handy With Codescanza
Codescanza is a simple app that acts as a supplement to Apple’s native app Wallet (which used to be called Passbook). Wallet is a great app for storing credit cards. But it won’t let you add all of your loyalty cards, coupons, and tickets. That’s where Codescanza comes in.
I tested out the app with my loyalty card from CVS, a drugstore chain. This card is useful because it allows me to get discounts at the store. But Wallet won’t accept this kind of card. It’s not a credit card, just a loyalty card. So I scanned the card into Codescanza on my iPhone.
I headed to my local CVS. They had one of my favorite brands of chocolate on sale, almost half off, but only if you have the loyalty card. I had to buy the chocolate, of course, in the interests of journalism. You appreciate the sacrifice I made, I’m sure. Armed with Codescanza on my watch, I went to the register, tapped open Codescanza, and scrolled to my CVS card code. The cashier scanned my watch, my discount was applied, and I enjoyed my bargain chocolate.
Codescanza is also a fully functioning iPhone app; you don’t need to use the Apple Watch at all. Frankly, it might be faster to just pull out your phone. You can add Codescanza to your iPhone’s Notification Center for quicker access. If you have a lot of cards scanned in, using the digital crown to scroll through them on the Apple Watch can be awkward. But it does work on the watch, and you’ve got the cool factor of using this still new and not widely used technology. Codescanza does offer a glance for easier access on the watch, but not a complication.
One thing you can do on the iPhone but not the Apple Watch is share your codes. This comes in handy between family members. Additionally, you can tap on the code to display the value for manual entry, in case the store scanner doesn’t work. I would like to see these options offered on the watch as well.
You can purchase Codescanza for $2.99 on the App Store.
