The first Apple Watch-connected robot vacuum is here

March 2, 2016

It had to happen, and now it has. The first robot vacuum cleaner to support the Apple Watch has finally launched, allowing users to manage their automated vacuuming program (and to receive notifications) at the wrist.

Engadget explains that the device, from Neato, retails for $699 and is indeed “the first robotic vacuum you can control with an Apple Watch or Android Wear device.” It’s called Botvac Connected, and it allows users to initiate cleaning, stop programs, and receive notifications concerning their vacuuming cycle at a connected smartwatch (or smartphone). The future is here, folks.

Well, it’s here for a price. But comparably speaking, you’re not paying over the odds for the Botvac Connected. Compared with other robot vacuums on the market, it’s reasonably priced and has the added benefit of working in sync with your smartwatch. Engadget had this to say about the Botvac’s performance:

As for the Botvac Connected itself, we found it to be a decent option to iRobot’s Roomba 980, another popular smartphone-enabled robot vac. For $200 less, Neato’s model cleans just as well — especially in tight spots — though it gets stuck more easily and needs extra babysitting.

Yet for $699, it could be that our dream of an Apple Watch-connected robot vacuum-filled future is still out of reach.
