Kill Time With Tic Tac Toe Of Danger And Doom!
It’s an awfully scary title for such a sweet little game. Tic Tac Toe of Danger and Doom! is just the Tic tac toe game you remember from childhood. Or maybe you call it Noughts and crosses, particularly if you’re English. Just in case anyone needs a primer on the game’s concept: two players, X and O, take turns marking spaces on a 3 by 3 grid. The first person to get three of their marks in a row either horizontally, vertically, or diagonally wins. If no one does, it’s a cat’s game (tie).
I spent many hours playing this game the old-fashioned way as a child. It was easy to pull out a pen and find scratch paper anywhere anytime we wanted to kill a couple of minutes. Enter the digital age, and a plethora of Tic tac toe games are available on the App Store. With so many versions of Tic tac toe on the App Store, I suppose you need a catchy name to stand out. Thus the Danger and Doom. There are no swinging knives or anything of that nature to avoid, just good old-fashioned Xs and Os.
We Apple Watch owners occasionally just want a quick and simple game to play on the watch. You have the option to play a real life friend nearby who has the app installed on her/his iPhone or Apple Watch. Alternatively, you can choose from one of three AI characters: Lil’ Clumsy, Ms. Danger, and Mr. Doom. I assume they are listed in order of difficulty, as the game’s description warns, “But beware – Mr. Doom has yet to lose a game.” Well, he has now, to me. I was able to beat all of the AI characters without difficulty. The best Mr. Doom was able to do was tie me up in a cat’s game; I beat him half of the time. If you play a series of games with a single opponent, your wins and losses will be tallied. Do note that each time you close the app and open it again, your stats start from 0:0 again.
My ninja-like skills in Tic tac toe aside, this is an easy breezy quickie retro game you can pick up when you literally have just a few seconds to kill. It’s free on the App Store and can be played on the Apple Watch or the iPhone, either with a real-life opponent or an AI character.
