I can't wait for the Maps app in watchOS 2.2
Apple sent out prerelease beta updates for iOS 9.3, tvOS 9.2, and watchOS 2.2 earlier today, some two weeks after the last round of betas reached registered developers. The update for the Apple Watch is a great one, however, and brings an enhanced Maps application to the smart watch platform.
As I’ve said before, the Maps app is one of the features I love most about my Apple Watch, and I’m using the application far, far more often than I ever anticipated (for navigation, in particular). For this reason, I can’t wait for watchOS 2.2: as you may have heard, the software update brings an enhanced Maps application that includes a couple of smart additions to the Apple Watch.
For instance, users of watchOS 2.2 beta 3 can quickly navigate to either home or work with a single tap. The Maps app saves your addresses for both locations, and also allows users to easily browse through local businesses based on a number of preset categories. Although I tend to fire off navigation on my Apple Watch using Siri commands, this feature should make the process of getting directions from the smart watch a heck of a lot faster. Because after all, with a screen this size anything that results in the need for fewer taps is good news in our books.
There’s also multi-watch support in watchOS 2.2, along with a number of bug fixes and performance improvements. But it’s that Maps app that has me itching to get hold of watchOS 2.2. Here’s hoping it launches soon.
