Apple Watch Overtakes Rolex In Luxury Brand Ranking

January 27, 2016

The Apple Watch has overtaken Rolex on a list of luxury brands, according to analysts firm Netbase, which measures social media mentions and consumer sediment from over 700 million posts in the last year.

According to Netbase, the Apple Watch took the number 1 spot in the “watches” category even though it was the only smartwatch featured in the category. Yep, no Moto 360, no Huawei Watch, and certainly no Pebble. Other watches in the category included brands like Tag Heuer, Patek Phillipe, and others.

Additionally, Apple itself was awarded the the number 4 spot for best luxury brand behind companies like Chanel. The iPhone was ranked number 11, while the Apple Watch was ranked 13.

Apple has continued to be considered a luxury brand dating back to the days when Steve Jobs ran the company. While the the company may not acknowledge this, it’s become clear that the company continues to refine itself in a way that certainly looks more elegant and luxurious. The Apple Watch Hermès is an example of this as well as the hiring or former Burberry CEO, Angela Ahrendts.

It’s no surprise that Apple is becoming more of a luxury company. The company was founded on providing easy-to-use software in beautiful hardware. Now that the company is in watch market, it’s taking luxury to a whole new level.
