Wealthy Men Like the Apple Watch, But Women Love Rolex

January 8, 2016

In a survey of 1,400 members performed by Luxy, a dating-like site aimed for “millionaires”, men preferred to wear the Apple Watch while women preferred a man to wear a Rolex.

The survey showed 72 percent of men prefer the Apple Watch, while 80 percent of women said they would rather date a mean wearing a Rolex, citing that it is one of the few ways of displaying ones wealth and status. That said, if a man was wearing an Apple Watch Edition made of Gold, only 43 precent of women would prefer a Rolex.

The company told Cult of Mac that they question whether the Apple Watch will be relevant in 12 to 18 months:

Even though Rolex watches hold their value, it’s not clear whether an Apple Watch will even by relevant in 12 to 18 months.

Still, it’s fascinating to see the divide between men and women. My guess is perhaps that the women surveyed look at the watch as more of a piece of jewelry, hence the reason why they prefer the Rolex as it is unquestionably more jewelry-like. Perhaps men are looking for simply a nice piece of a technology to put on their wrist and the Apple Watch currently does that better than anyone.
