Supply Chain Report Claims Apple on Track to Sell Over 10M Apple Watches in 2015

November 19, 2015

Digitimes today reports that supply chain sources indicate that Apple is likely to ship more than 10M Apple Watches by the end of the year, more than some expected, as the company is looking for additional suppliers.

Apple has placed orders for four million Apple Watches for the fourth quarter, targeting mainly demand from the year-end holidays. Sales of Apple Watch are expected to surpass 10 million units in 2015.

Apple is to seek another manufacturer aside from Quanta Computer, according to a Chinese-language Apple Daily report.

Currently all Apple Watches are build by Quanta, but it appears that Apple is looking for other suppliers to help, namely Foxconn, Iventec, and Wistron being potential candidates. Quanta recently suggested that Apple’s second-generation Watch would ship around the second quarter of 2016.

10 million units in 8 months would be pretty good given that many folks, particularly in the tech industry, expected the Apple Watch to “flop.” If Apple sells 10 million by the end of 2015, they could perhaps sell anywhere between 12-14 million for the first 12 months, a number that would dwarf the total amount of Android Wear devices shipped to date.

But hey, it’s a flop, right?
