LG's LTE Android Wear Smartwatch Will Cost $300
LG was the first company that announced an Android Wear smartwatch with built-in LTE, and today AT&T has revealed that the LG Watch Urbane Edition LTE will go on sale starting November 13 with a price of $300, which can be split up over 20 months if you prefer. Those that sign a two-ayr contract, which runs for $10 per month on top of your data plan can get the device for $200.
The Watch Urbane Edition LTE is the first smartwatch to support AT&Ts new NumberSync service, which lets you make and receive text messages and phone calls from a connected device via your phone number. Samsung’s Gear S2 with LTE will also get this feature, but will have to wait until November 20th to get it. It will also have a $300 price tag, but can be purchased for $200 with a two-year contract.
While watches like the Apple Watch continue to rely on Bluetooth and Wi-fi in order to receive phone calls and text messages, many believe that smartwatches will inevitably become standalone devices, allowing them to receive information without the need for a phone nearby. Clearly Samsung and LG feel this way with their offerings.
