Tim Cook Talks Apple Watch At WSJDLive

October 20, 2015

Tim Cook today took the stage at the WSJDLive (Wall Street Journal Digital Live) conference for an interview. While on stage, Cook discussed a variety of topics, ranging from iPhone to Apple Watch, and even a little bit about cars.

When asked about Apple Watch sales, Cook once again offered no info regarding sales numbers, and when asked if he ever would, Cook suggested that he doesn’t plan on it, saying that it would help competitors:

We are not announcing the numbers. This is competitive information,” Cook said. “I don’t want to help the competition. We shipped a lot the first quarter, then last quarter we shipped even more.  I can predict this quarter we will ship even more.

When asked about the future of the Watch, Cook believes that the biggest area of growth is in the Health monitoring functions. “People love the health and fitness aspect of Watch,” Cook explained. “That’s certainly been true for me. The health aspect of the watch has a long product road map ahead of it.”

Cook was also asked if there would ever be a time when the Watch wouldn’t need the phone. While Cook didn’t give us a solid “yes,” he did say “I don’t want to tell you that,” which to us suggests that it’s something that’s in the works, but is not quite ready yet.

You can read more of the interview here. We’ll also post video once it becomes available.
