Apple Watch Leather Loop Is 'Essentially Waterproof'
Product designer Greg Koenig, known for publishing his analysis on materials and process, particularly with Apple products, has posted a an article where he experiments on the durability and water resistance of Apple’s Leather Loop band for the Apple Watch.
In the experiment, Koenig does four different soak cycles, three of which were 10 minute soaks in water, followed by air drying at room temperature. In his fourth and final soak test, he let the Leather Loop soak in water 8 hours before letting it dry at room temperature for 3 hours.
The verdict? The Leather Loop looked completely undamaged:
The leather shows zero visible signs of damage, zero texture change. As far as these (again, unscientific) tests are showing, the leather on Apple’s Loop band is essentially waterproof.
While Koeneg acknowledges that the Leather Loop did hold up remarkably well he did caution that salt, humidity and even sweat could provide very different results.
