People Are Apparently Buying the MontBlanc E-Strap

September 30, 2015

Montblanc’s CEO, Jerome Lambert said that initial sales of the company’s intelligent e-strap are beating expectations as the watchmaker aims to continue taking on the Apple Watch.

The strap, which costs $300 and is currently only sold with new Montblanc watches, will become available as a separate accessory before the end of the year. While Labert decline to provide sales figures, he did say that it was doing better than expected.

It has all the advantages of the iwatch without being in the watch.

iWatch…

When asked if the Apple Watch would shake up the Swiss Watch making industry, Labert said only time will tell.

It is still too early to say how disruptive it will be. In the phone industry the lifetime of a product is 18 months, in watchmaking it is 180 years.

While Lambert does have a point, it’s certainly not going to take 180 years for this to pan out. Time will tell indeed.
