Translator for watchOS 2 Will Show You Local Phrases Based on Your Location

September 11, 2015

Microsoft has announced updates for its Translator app for watchOS 2 that aims to make it easier to communicate common phrases when you’re traveling abroad.

Depending on your location and the time of day, the app will show you phrases like “hello”, “good morning”, and “goodbye” in the native language of the country or place you’re in. An easy example would be that if the Watch knows you’re in Mexico, it would likely display “Buenas tardes”, meaning “Good Afternoon” during you’re out and about between 12PM and 4PM.

Time Travel will also work so that you can fast forward and learn phrases like “good night” or “goodbye.”

Of course, you’ll also be able to listen to the translations through the Watches speaker now that Apple has granted third-party access to the hardware.

Expect to see these features September 16, when watchOS 2 drops.
