Android Wear Gets 'Interactive Watch Faces' in New Update
Today, Google unveiled an update to Android Wear that brings something called “Interactive Watch Faces.” The functionality allows developers to essentially detect taps on the watch face in order to reveal more information.
Today, we’re launching interactive watch faces, making it easier (and more fun) to stay connected, right from your wrist,” Google said in its blog post about the update. “Now, with just a tap, your watch face can change its design, reveal more information, or even launch a specific app.
Google shows the example of Under Armor which will show your step count, calories burned, and distance with a simple tap of the display. Sort of similar to what the Apple Watch does when in workout mode.
The updates will be available in the coming weeks according to Google. We’ll keep you updated on when they hit. If you’re a developer be sure to check out info on the new Interactive Watch Face API that launched today.
