Apple Could Learn A Thing Or Two From This 1972 Hamilton Pulsar Ad
Yesterday, Marc Weber Tobias contributed an article to Forbes discussing the world-traveling durability of Apple Watch. What he has to say is certainly interesting for the various globetrotters among us (I am not one), and it’s worth a read in its own right. But the truly interesting aspect of Tobias’ post was this gem of a 1972 ad promo he dug up for Hamilton’s Pulsar wristwatch:
At nearly 40 minutes, the video is a long one, but the first 14 minutes are particularly interesting in the context of what Apple’s doing now, some 43 years later. I, for one, was mesmerized by the production, and not just because of my nostalgic commercial bent. Instead, I couldn’t help but notice the Pulsar’s technologically-advanced similarities to Apple Watch (which are, in some cases, seemingly superior to Cupertino’s wearable in terms of solid-state modular construction, particularly given the era of its invention) and the actual reality that this is the exact sort of presentation Apple Watch so desperately needs in the here and now.
Because, let’s face it: These hokey Apple Watch ads aren’t selling anyone on anything.
