watchOS 2 Beta 5 adds 70 Second Screen-on, New Now Playing Glance, and Paris Timelapse

August 6, 2015

After releasing watchOS 2 beta 5 earlier today, some of our readers along with 9to5Mac have found new features that were otherwise not available on previous betas.

One of the major additions is the ability to keep the Apple Watch’s display on for 70 seconds after it’s been tapped. This is more than 4 times longer than the current default and non-adjustable setting of 15 seconds. We can think of a few instances when this comes in handy. For example, when wanting to time something for a minute, you’ll no longer have to touch the display multiple times in order to see the full minute pass.

Another small feature that has been added is a new Time-lapse face featuring the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Like the other Time-lapse faces, the Watch will display what Paris looks like at the time of day you look at it.

Apple has also redesigned the Now Playing screen and Glance. The screen now shows a circular volume level indicator in the middle along with “love” and “add” to the left and right. We can’t help but think that circular volume indicator would make for a great complication on the Watch face.

9to5Mac has also noted some new Quick Play features found in the Music App. According to 9to5, this allows you to just start playing music right away instead of having to fiddle with playlists and such.
