Apple Watch Sales Not "Breaking-Even" According to Analyst
Sales of the Apple Watch continue to be a mystery since its launch back in April, with various analysts offering up their own estimates on how many Apple has been selling. Today, Taiwan’s Advanced Semiconductor Engineering Inc. has suggested that Apple Watch sales are not as high as expected.
For those of you who are unaware, Advanced Semiconductor Engineering Inc. (ASE) is the company responsible for putting together all the the internal parts of the Appel Watch through a process known as “system in a package” according to the Wall Street Journal.
Mark Li, a Bernstein Research analyst, said that an Advanced Semiconductor Engineering subsidiary told investors that the company is not hitting its “break-even volume” of roughly 2 million Apple Watch units per month. Additionally, they do not expect Apple to reach 2 million per month until at least the holiday season.
Advanced Semiconductor Engineering believed Apple would sell roughly 18 million units in 2015, but now believes Apple will not be able to hit this number.
“The shortfall of Apple Watch is a disappointment,” Mr. Li wrote in a note to clients. “We came in with a low expectation but below break-even still surprised us.”
Of course, this is all unofficial as Apple has yet to announce any numbers and we don’t expect them to do so anytime soon. For now, we’ll just have to keep taking these estimates with a big grain of salt.
