Reserve Strap Releases Final Design and Release Date For its Watch Strap
The company behind Reserve Strap — a band that promises to charge your Apple Watch while you wear it — has released its final design along with a shipping date. According to the company, the Watch strap will add “more than 30 hours of additional usage” and will starting shipping November 3, 2015.
The strap, which will sell for $250 and is available for pre-order, charges the Apple Watch using Apple’s built-in diagnostic port found just inside the groove where the Watch bands connect. According to Reserve Strap, you’ll be able to start charging your Apple Watch with a single press of a power button. An LED indicator will show you how much charge you have left using colors akin the a stoplight. This means that you can decide to start charging your Apple Watch at anytime, rather than having the band constantly charging your Watch. The company also says that the “specialized thermoset elastomer silicon” strap will be available in both 38mm and 42mm and will come in three colors: White, Grey or Black.
Reserve has made no mention of whether this strap complies with Apple’s Made for Apple Watch program, so our assumption is that it’s not. Still, if this product makes it to market, it will be interesting to see how Apple reacts, especially if it gains traction. Adding 30 hours of battery to a device that lasts about 18 hours is pretty amazing.
