Updated Top List: Spark by Readdle And More Email Watch App Favorites
Let’s face it: although Apple’s built in apps on the Watch serve as fine extensions to their iPhone counterparts, some of them can definitely be improved. This is especially true with the Mail app, which serves as a basic viewer on the Apple Watch and does not even allow for the composition of new messages.
The ability to do anything with email from your watch might seem a little unnecessary, but what better way to discretely pass the time during a meeting than by going through some email? You know you shouldn’t do it, but who are we kidding here? We’re all going to if we can one way or another.
That’s why we’re determined to figure out this whole “email on the wrist” maneuver, and would like to present to you our favorite options that make up for where the default Mail app disappoints.
Our Favorite: Spark By Readdle
As Christine Chan mentioned in her detailed review at AppAdvice:
This one simple little app has changed everything regarding how I deal with email.
And if there’s one thing anyone who writes for the Internet deals with on a daily basis, it’s email. While I recommend checking out her full review if you want to learn more about the Spark app in its entirety, I can assure you that Chan’s conclusions also carry over to the Apple Watch.
The app’s main menu is informative and laid out simply, with shortcuts to get to your inbox, pinned and snoozed messages, and more. Not to mention the ability to reply to, snooze, archive, delete, or flag messages, allowing you to take more control of email from your wrist.
A final nice touch I noticed about Spark on the Apple Watch is that it’s very snappy. Since third-party Apple Watch apps are essentially run on your iPhone and streamed to the Watch, some sluggishness is common. However, Readdle has done a fantastic job at making Spark an exception to this commonality. The app loads really quickly and navigation is mostly uninterrupted.
While Spark happens to be our favorite option, and since different tools work best for different people, be sure to check out our full updated top list below:
