Even though it’s already met its modest Kickstarter funding goal, you can still snag one of these 24-karat gold plate kits for under $100. If all the above time-lapsed tedium is worth saving a few hundred dollars off what the pros charge, this might be just the fun afternoon project for you. The results look surprisingly good, and the process has the added benefit of being totally reversible.

So now that gold plating Apple Watches is both old and affordable hat, I’m really only interested in the two-tone gold-and-steel designs all you DIYers come up with. Plate the top half of Apple Watch only? Just the Digital Crown? Maybe every other Band link? Add a little sandpaper, and one could even whip up a black stainless/gold combo of some kind.

That would look cool.
