eBay Responds To Its AWOL Apple Watch App

May 8, 2015

One of Apple Watch’s early big supporters has been unceremoniously and very conspicuously removed from the new wearable’s online featured apps page. Yep, if you were expecting to stay on top of your bids and snipe a few auctions while you’re at it, you’ll have to wait: eBay is, from the looks of things, not available for Apple Watch.

At least, not yet.

Luckily, the retailer saw that its sudden absence was causing some confusion, and a company representative reached out to AppAdvice, assuring everyone that “the eBay Apple Watch app will be making its way to the store in the coming weeks.” It seems the app simply isn’t ready, and Apple took down the listing in order that they might not mislead eager customers.

And just so you know there will be no lost functionality, here’s the app’s updated product statement from eBay’s director of mobile products, David Cheng:

eBay’s goal is to facilitate shopping whenever and wherever – on their desk, in their pocket, or even on their wrist. The eBay for Apple Watch app will be another step forward in driving our vision to deliver frictionless commerce by bringing simplicity while maintaining utility. The app, designed from the ground up, will enable shoppers to stay on top of their auctions by sending outbid notices and other notifications directly to their wrist so that they can react immediately and never miss a sale.
