This Quick Trick Shows You Who Has An Apple Watch
You have an Apple Watch, so you’re obviously a part of the cutting-edge elite. Unfortunately, supply is slim at the moment, so many of your friends — even ones as tech savvy as you — are probably going without. And that’s a bummer, because a lot of the thing’s coolest features really require others to be wearing the wearable, too.
Of course, if you still want to try out fun stuff like sending doodles and heartbeats and haptic morse code, you might only have to look as far your iPhone Contacts. You probably have a ton of people in your address book, and some of them are bound to be early adopters just like you, even if your favorites aren’t. Here’s how to tell which of those folks have an Apple Watch.
First, you’ll need to add one (or several) of these contacts to your “friends circle,” which you access by pressing the button under (or over, for lefties) the Digital Crown. The easiest way to do this is, of course, via your iPhone’s Apple Watch app:
Then, on your Apple Watch, access the friends circle and tap on the contact’s listing. There, you’ll see their full-sized avatar. Beneath that, directly across the bottom center of the screen, you may also see an encircled finger icon. If you do, that contact is available to interact via Digital Touch, which means they — like you — are among the very first wave of lucky Apple Watch owners.
This method is similar to how, back in the early days of FaceTime, your contact list would give you the video-call option only for other users with compatible kit.
Just remember, if you intend to send your heart and art to these newfound Apple Watch aficionados, make sure they’re of the appropriate age or demeanor before you draw what we all know you’re going to.
