PEY for iPhone launched in December 2014 as the first iBeacon-powered bitcoin app. What started as a quick launcher for other wallets (yallet, blockchain.info, coinbase) will be upgraded to support it’s own integrated wallet. This in conjunction with Bluetooth LE Technology and dedicated low-cost hardware terminals for merchants will allow for PEY to become the first solution letting users pay a coffee, meal or beer with an Apple Watch outside of the US. It is currently being tested with various merchants throughout Hannover, Germany and will be expanding all over the world very soon.

Pay with bitcoin
When you are ready to pay, the waiter enters the amount on their PEY terminal. Immediately a payment request appears on your Watch. By taping “pay now” the payment is securely sent in fractions of a second.
Refill wallet at BTM
To refill your wallet, you just approach one of the PEY-compatible BTMs worldwide and your watch recognises that you are standing in front of it. Your watch gets a notification and from there you can quickly jump to one of the personal codes without pulling your phone out.
Find a shop nearby
A list of bitcoin-accepting shops, pubs, café’s and more appear in your watch in order of proximity. This way you can quickly make a reservation at your favourite restaurant or simply ask your watch for directions to the nearest hair stylist.

PEY was initiated in November 2014 by Ricardo Ferrer Rivero (@ricferrer) and it quickly grew to a 9-man team. The initial goal was to make their neighborhood bitcoin-friendly. Because of the immediate success of that project the team continued development and established a company around the idea. Further development of the iOS App, Apple Watch App and Hardware Terminal is already ongoing in order to expand to every corner of the earth by the end of 2015.
