Sell Your Apple Watch Now to Get the Best Price

Sell Your Apple Watch Now to Get the Best Price

August 30, 2016

The Apple Event is happening a week from tomorrow. It’s likely that Apple will announce a new Apple Watch at that time. If you are planning to sell your Apple Watch and buy an ‘Apple Watch 2,’ now is the time to start making arrangements to sell your current one.

I checked two of my favorite resale sites, Gazelle and Nextworth. I like them because while you may not get the highest possible price, the process to use them is smooth and easy. You answer some questions about your item and they quote you an offer. They give you plenty of time to get your item mailed to them after you’ve locked in your price, so you don’t need to go without an Apple Watch while waiting for your new one. If you change your mind about selling, you can simply cancel the quote with no penalty.

However, Gazelle is apparently not buying Apple Watches at this time. So I delved into Nextworth. They are buying every model of Apple Watch, as far as I can tell. The process is simple, just choose your model, answer a few questions about its condition, and get a quote. If you like the quote, you accept it, they will send you a shipping label and materials, and you mail it in. I got quotes on several popular Apple Watch and Apple Watch Sport models, assuming pristine condition and including the charger, so you can get an idea of prices. Of course different models and different states of wear and tear will yield different prices.

Apple Watch 38mm Silver, White Sport Band: $100

Apple Watch 42mm Silver, White Sport Band: $160

Apple Watch Sport 38mm Silver, White Sport Band: $100

Apple Watch Sport 42mm Silver, White Sport Band: $120

As the owner of 38mm Apple Watch, I was disappointed to see that I would receive the same amount as would the owner of an Apple Watch Sport of the same size and color. That’s good for Sport owners, though. There is a bigger price differential for the 42mm watches. You can get a quote on your own model here on Nextworth.

The prices quoted here are as of this writing; they may drop as we get closer to the Apple Event. They will almost definitely drop as soon as the new Apple Watch is announced. This goes for your iPhone, and iPad as well. So don’t wait too long if you’re planning to sell your old tech and buy new.

Of course there are other options for selling your Apple Watch. Popular sites such as eBay, Craig’s List, Amazon, and Swappa allow users to set their price and sell directly to another person. There can be risks involved when selling on your own, but you also may be able to get more money.

There is also a possibility that Apple will offer some kind of trade-in program for customers upgrading from the current models to the next Apple Watch. I would expect that if they are going to do so, they will announce it at the Sept. 7 event.
