Totalizer is the Logical Calculator App for Your Apple Watch

July 24, 2016

If you’ve been looking for a simple calculator app for your Apple Watch that has just the features you need, take a look at Totalizer. It’s designed entirely for use on the Apple Watch. In fact, the iPhone app shows only a brief tutorial about the Apple Watch app.

Totalizer does offer several complications. I’ve put two on my Modular face below, the large complication in the center shows the total of the last calculation you’ve done in Totalizer. The small bottom center complication on the Modular face acts only as a shortcut to the app. On the Minnie face, you can see Totalizer in the bottom complication, which shows the last calculation I did.

Totalizer offers two different layouts, A and B. Layout A shows the numbers plus all of the available functions: add, subtract, divide, multiply, and percent. Layout B shows only the numbers on one screen, which allows the number buttons to be larger. Scrolling the digital crown, swiping up, or tapping the red button takes you to the functions page.

The percent button works as you would expect. Tap in 300+10% and you’ll get 330. Force pressing within Totalizer brings up three options: Voice Input, Layout A/B, and Clear All. One thing that sets Totalizer apart from most calculator apps is that there is no equal (=) sign. There’s no need, since Totalizer always keeps a running total of your calculations.

I found the app to work flawlessly, except for Voice Input. Though I tested it in a quiet room, it just didn’t work for me. Frankly, if you want to do a calculation by voice, Siri works better. But if you want a touch calculator on your Apple Watch, Totalizer is a great choice. The buttons are easy to see and press, the app is responsive, snappy, and logical. You can find Totalizer on the App Store for $0.99.
