Storm Offers a Useful Weather Complication on the Apple Watch

July 16, 2016

If you’re looking for a good weather tracking app for your Apple Watch that has a useful complication and a customizable interface, look no further than free app Storm by Weather Underground. As the name suggests, the app focuses on storm conditions, using high definition radar and advanced storm cell tracking. It offers a number of different weather complication options.

There are some interesting features in the iPhone app. My colleague Brent Dirks went into detail on our sister site AppAdvice. It’s worth noting that while there are ads in the iPhone app that require a subscription to remove, there are no ads on the Apple Watch.

So what does the pared down Apple Watch app do? You can get real-time alerts for precipitation, lightning and severe weather. There are three different complications. The typical small, circular one offers just the temperature, as you can see in the photo below in the bottom center spot of the Modular face. The large complication in the Modular face gives you the temperature, “feels like” temperature, dew point, and wind information. The line complication, such as at the bottom of the Mickey face, offers the temperature and wind information. Storm offers a glance as well. In watchOS 3, you’ll be able to place it in your dock.

Tap on the complication to open the app. You can’t customize the complication, however, you can customize what you see when you open the app. Force press within the app to customize it. The widget near the top right corner and the two lines in the middle can be personalized to show: nothing, feels like, humidity, dew point, wind, gusts, pressure, forecast precipitation, forecast high/low, visibility, sky icon, sky text, sunrise/sunset, and moonrise/set.

Storm

This may not be the only weather app you ever need, but it’s a good addition to your Apple Watch if you live or travel to in an area that has significant storm activity. It gives you some nice weather viewing options, progressive storm tracking, and it doesn’t cost a dime.

Storm is free on the App Store.
