Park your car with ParkOmator and never get ticketed again

March 14, 2016

ParkOmator is a convenient app that will help you remember where you parked your car and get you back to it before your meter runs out. It’s easy to use, and you can use it on either your iPhone or your Apple Watch.

For this review, I’ll assume you’re using it on your watch. Park your car and feed the meter. Open the app via Siri, the app’s glance, or going to the app cloud and tapping it. Tap the “I’m parked here” button. That will take you to a “Set Time” screen, where you use the + and – buttons to set the time you have put on the parking meter. Tap “Start,” and then “Got It” on the confirmation screen. Then go about your day.

You’ll get multiple reminders when it’s getting close to the time you need to get back to the meter. The app will buzz you when you have fifteen minutes left on your meter, then again at five minutes, one minute, and expired. With each reminder, you have the option to let the app “Take me back!” or “Dismiss.” If you choose to have the app take you back, you’ll be taken to the Maps app for directions back to your parking spot. Here is where I ran into a little trouble. My watch did eventually get me directions, but first it gave me a lot of spinning wheel. Impatience usually led me to switch over to my iPhone for directions. I have a feeling this is a limitation of the Apple Watch itself, but it’s something to be aware of. Regardless, I tested the app multiple times and I had no trouble getting back to my car well before my metered time ran out.

ParkOmator is available on the App Store for $.99. If it saves you from getting one parking ticket, it’s well worth its price.
