Sync Your Notes Across All Devices With Evernote

March 10, 2016

I’ve had Evernote on my iPhone, iPad, and MacBook for ages; it’s an app I use all of the time. But it hadn’t occurred to me until recently to use it on the Apple Watch. If you haven’t tried it yet, I suggest that you do. It’s pretty cool, actually.

Just in case you haven’t used Evernote on any device, it’s the ultimate note app. You can set up notebooks and notes within each notebook, organize them with tags. Set up checklists, to-dos, and reminders. With Evernote, you sync your notes across all of your devices, automatically. Everything is searchable, even text within photos. You can read more about Evernote on our sister site, AppAdvice. It’s a free app, though there are paid premium features. I haven’t felt the need to upgrade yet, and I’ve been a daily Evernote user for years.

You can think of Evernote on the Apple Watch as a companion app. You’re not going to access all of its features on the tiny screen, but it does do a few handy things. Do note that it is heavily reliant upon dictation, as are most note apps on the watch.

When you first open the app on your Apple Watch, you’ll see three things. First you’ll notice a plus sign, so you can add a new note right from the watch, using dictation. You’ll also see a search symbol, so you can search all of your notes. Tap that and you’ll see a list of your recent search terms, plus a dictation button so you can dictate a new search. Additionally, you’ll see the three most recently viewed notes, and the two most recently updated notes. Anywhere in the app, you can force press to bring up the New Note option.

Evernote on the Apple Watch has nowhere near the features that the full iOS or OS app does. It wouldn’t be practical to try and squeeze that many features onto a one-inch screen. But it’s definitely worth checking out, especially for the grand price of free on the App Store.
